Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO as it is commonly known, means analysing and modifying your website for searches by potential customers. This would then enable search engines to index it correctly. And how does a search engine index your site? Well Google for example has what is known as a ’Googlebot’. This web crawling robot searches for web pages and passes it on to Google’s Indexer. If your website is very advanced with the use of flash, java-script and images, then it’s very hard for a web crawling robot such as Googlebot to index your site. And if your site cannot be indexed, then your site will not be found. The only people who would find your site, would be friends and family, because you would have told them about it! Not very good for your sales, particularly if you’ve spent a lot of time and effort creating the website.
Once your site is indexed, the next step is for Google to decide how important your website is by way of PageRank. This is worked out by seeing how many links link back to your website. The more links you have to your website, determines how high up the PageRank your website will be.
